Ignore Them, They'll Go Away

"For the choice before America is not between a Bush and a Gore; it is between Bush and real monsters, between us and people dedicated to our destruction."

   - David Warren, Canadian journalist and essayist

Hardly any of the Democratic candidates seem to be overly concerned about terrorism. Tony Blankley at TownHall.com has noticed this and makes the case that they should. I'm a little surprised at their lack of interest too, but when you understand where most of those who support them stand on the issue, it makes sense that they wouldn't be majoring on it in their speeches.

I have a son and many friends who are anti-war. I hate war too, but I believe there's no issue more critical to our country right now than dealing with terrorism. I never again want to experience what I saw the morning of September 11, 2001, but in my heart know the possibility exists no matter how vigilant we are.

I believe we must continue to deal with and ultimately defeat the people who plan and carry out suicide attacks if we want our children and grand-children to live in an America where it's safe to go to work or a movie without worrying about being killed by some madman with a bomb strapped to his body.

Paul Berman has written a new book about the phenomenon of terrorism titled Terror and Liberalism. If you want more insight on what motivates these people, how their utopian visions are not unlike those of Facism, Nazism and Communism, and how rational people can turn their heads pretending it doesn't exist and hoping it will go away, then read this book.

Whether you are for or against the war on terrorism you will come away with a new appreciation for what we're faced with.

Also as a senior, you qualify for free tax services through AARP. Did you know that? Look in the AARP magazine for the phone # for a site near you.

OK, Ron. I've got to take issue with this one...
Like a lot of Dems., I have trouble equating the war in Iraq with the war on terrorism and homeland security. I believe the war in Iraq diverted material, men, attention and money from Afghanistan, where we WERE fighting terrorists. That aside, issues like being able to get and afford health insurance, sending the kids to college, and finding a job have replaced terrorism as top priorities, esp. in low-risk areas like Iowa and NH...

...War is necessary sometimes, and it's necessary to go it alone at times, but to really fight terrorism - to hunt this scum down no matter where they are - is going to take the aid of all of our allies.
Terrorism may not be a big issue now, but it's going to be. Dems. have real issues with Bush on this: cuts in promised funding for first-responders, gaps in port security, a color-code system that creates a climate of fear, an unnecessary war, etc.

Our war on terrorism has, to date, been more form than true substance. We should have enlisted as many countries as possible to fight this not alienate them. It has turned into a glogbal problem and will continue to do so as long as we are intent with focusing on differences rather than commonalities. Too bad Bush and company don't get it.

Thank you for the lead. If only we could get more people to read and research the 'truth' on all of the garbage being shoved down everyone's throats these days. There is SO much ignorance when we have so many tools these days to find out more information and keep more informed. People joining in on bias, fear and hate, not knowing what it is really about. People vote when they have NO idea what they are voting FOR; And for things that effect all of us and our children.

There are two real political parties in this country if people open thier eyes, Americans and democrats. If you support the troops you support the campaign and you support the commander in chief although he is giving in too much, but none the less you support all. Its just like filthy democrats to say to one person "hey I like you" then turn around and say "Hey I like you" to someone totally different. Love themselves is all they do. semper fi

Terrorism is for me and for quite a few people the most important issue in the race. I think it will in the end be the definining issue. If the Dems continue to act like Bush has overreacted, that Saddam was not a threat, and insist on more cooperation with the UN (a proven body of chickens) I don't think they will win. Kerry will have to separate his anti viet nam war activities from Iraq if he wants to be taken seriously.
